Reason Magazine Hates Cops

The libertarian magazine is at it again. This time their lies are directed at cops. Reason tries to imply that all arrests of children (under the age of 13) are unjustified. They bring up the fact that a seven-year-old was mistreated by a cop and try to portray this as a common occurrence. And for that reason, cops should not be able to act as guards for schools. There are over 40 million children in America between the ages of 5–14. It is more than likely there are some kids who will do bad or horrifying things. We may not like to think of it, but it does happen.

Yes, it is horrid that this happens. But not all cases of arrests are unjustified. Children are cable of murder and theft. Even children as young as six have committed murder. Now this is super rare from what I can find, but it does happen. The more common thing seems to be theft and assault. But as for the number of arrests that are made of children younger than the age of 10, I can’t find an original source for the data.

Reason says they are using the numbers ABC got from the FBI. But I can not find the data from the FBI. The youngest I can find some data on is children under the age of 15. None of the data is broken down to younger ages from what I can find. ABC gives some crime numbers they say comes from the FBI, but I can not verify if it is true because they don’t even seem to link the source. But even if a lot of the arrests are unjustified, that does not mean schools should not be allowed to have police at the school if they wish to have them. This would just mean that there needs to be better/more training for officers and perhaps a change in the law.

Are police perfect? No. But does that mean all or most are bad? Also no. Cops make mistakes and much of it is probably because of the lack of training or poor training. A lot of incidence cops have with children are kids with disabilities. Now one good thing that I would like to bring up is that the number of children arrested by cops is on the decline and has been since the 90s. But of course, Reason doesn’t want to mention that.
